A unique event combining hiking with shopping and gourmet food in the satoyama of Chichibu has been well received. The easy 3km course is manageable for beginners and families, and the fresh green scenery of the satoyama in spring is praised for its beauty. Vendor booths along the route sell local agricultural products, homemade sweets, bread, woodcraft, and more, with gelato made with soy sauce being a particularly popular Chichibu specialty. The event has a warm, homey atmosphere with friendly interactions with local people, offering a relaxed pace unlike large-scale events. Woodworking experiences like log-cutting and mushroom cultivation are a big hit with children. With diverse programs including nature observation tours and mini concerts, there are many ways to enjoy the event beyond just hiking. The free admission is also a welcome bonus. Easily accessible right at Ashigakubo Station, it is highly rated as an ideal day trip from central Tokyo.
