Koto Fireworks Festival 2026
A beloved summer tradition in Koto Ward. Held on August 11, 2026 (Tue, national holiday) at Arakawa Sunamachi Waterside Park (between Kasai Bridge and Kiyosuna Bridge). The launch site is only about 150m from the viewing area, offering a spectacular experience as approximately 6,000 fireworks, centered on star mines, burst overhead. Themed fireworks choreographed to music are another highlight, and the fireworks reflected on the Arakawa River create a uniquely picturesque scene befitting Koto, the watercolor city. All seats are reserved so there is no need for early spot-saving. Free seats for ward residents and paid reserved seats are available for a relaxed viewing experience. Ceremony starts at 19:00, fireworks from 19:10 to 20:00. Held in light rain; canceled in severe weather (no rescheduling).

Thanks to the all-reserved seating system, crowds are less intense than at larger fireworks festivals, allowing for relatively relaxed viewing. The subway can be crowded on the way home, so consider staggering your departure time or heading toward Nishi-Kasai to disperse. Since attendance at the venue is limited, congestion coming and going is also reduced.

Bringing a leisure sheet and drinks is recommended. Insect repellent spray is helpful as the venue is on a riverbed. Check the weather forecast on the day as the event is canceled in severe weather with no rescheduling. Check the official website (koto-hanabi.com) in advance for paid and resident seat tickets. There are no official food stalls on the riverbed, but street vendors line the route from Minami-Sunamachi Station to the venue. A large supermarket nearby makes shopping convenient.

Visitor Report
The standout feature is the mere 150m distance between the launch site and viewing area, earning high praise for the overwhelming power of fireworks spreading overhead and the booming sounds that resonate through your body - an experience unmatched by other fireworks festivals. Visitors can enjoy uniquely shaped fireworks like plum blossoms, frogs, and Saturn, as well as beautiful pastel-colored fireworks, with many praising the skillful choreography. Music-synchronized performances are also well-received, with themed fireworks being a recent characteristic. The introduction of all-reserved seating has been widely welcomed as it eliminated the excessive spot-saving competition of the past, allowing for relaxed viewing. As a community-oriented fireworks festival, many families with children attend, creating a local festival atmosphere. While there are no official food stalls on the riverbed, street vendors line the route from Minami-Sunamachi Station, and a large supermarket nearby makes shopping convenient. However, the subway becomes very crowded after the event, so staggering departure times is recommended.
