Kagurazaka Festival 2026 (Hoozuki Market and Awa Odori)

The Hoozuki Market features excellent street food from Kagurazaka restaurants including unagi, Spanish bar fare, churrasco, and Taiwanese craft beer. The Awa Odori on the sloped street is a spectacular sight. A children's Awa Odori contest is also popular with families.

First held in 1972 (Showa 47), the festival celebrates its 52nd edition in 2026. Starting as a local summer festival organized by the Kagurazaka-dori shopping association, the two-part format of Hoozuki Market and Awa Odori became established over half a century.

First held in 1972, held annually in late July over 4 days. The two-part format of 2-day Hoozuki Market and 2-day Awa Odori is standard. Canceled in 2020–2021 due to COVID. Resumed as the 48th edition in 2022. The 50th milestone was reached in 2024.

About 2–3 minutes from Iidabashi Station West Exit (JR Chuo/Sobu Line). About 3–5 minutes from Kagurazaka Station Exit 1 (Tokyo Metro Tozai Line). About 1–2 minutes from Ushigome-Kagurazaka Station Exit A3 (Toei Oedo Line). During the festival, Kagurazaka-dori is closed to vehicles; public transportation is recommended. No dedicated parking.

The first day of the Hoozuki Market (Wednesday) right after opening at 17:00–18:00 is the least crowded. Peak time is 18:00–20:00. Friday night Awa Odori is the most crowded due to after-work visitors.

Food stalls are only available during the 2-day Hoozuki Market, not during Awa Odori days. Wearing yukata is recommended but be careful with geta sandals on the slope. Cash is advised (cashless options vary by shop). Towels, fans, and insect repellent are helpful.
