The 52nd Yoshinogawa Matsuri Noryo Fireworks Festival
One of Nara Prefecture's largest summer-evening fireworks festivals, held on the banks of the Yoshino River, a place connected to Kagiya Yahei, the pyrotechnician who laid the foundations of Japan's fireworks culture. Laser beams synchronized to music and roughly 4,000 fireworks color the night sky, and the popular "message fireworks" are launched while wishes submitted in advance by spectators are read aloud, making for a moving presentation. As toro nagashi lanterns cast a dreamlike glow across the river's surface, some 100 night stalls line up side by side, and as a signature sight of summer in Gojo City the festival draws large crowds every year. About a 15-minute walk from Gojo Station on the JR Wakayama Line. By car, about 10 minutes from the Gojo IC on the Keinawa Expressway. Temporary parking is available (limited number of spaces). Traffic restrictions are in place on nearby roads on the day of the event.
